Accountant

El Futuro is currently hiring a full-time Accountant. This position performs and supports El Futuro’s accounting work, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, general accounting functions, payroll, and assisting with the month end close process, financial reporting, and other functions related to compliance.

Key Functions:

The Accountant performs a wide range of functions including, but not limited to the following:

Administrative
Opens Finance Department’s mail, segregating checks and associated documentation
Prepares daily list of checks received and circulates to appropriate parties
Complete bank deposits

General Accounting
Administer QuickBooks Online including general ledger entry and maintenance
Process vendor invoices following organizational procedures, reimbursements, and disbursements
Handle cash receipts and account reconciliation
Maintain Accounts Receivable aging schedule in conjunction with Controller
Manage credit card reconciliations
Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all organization accounts. Follow up and resolve all reconciling items on a timely basis. Perform reconciliations of subsidiary ledgers to general ledger
Assist with month-end close, including bank reconciliations
Assist with reporting
Post journal entries
Assist with annual audit process
Research inquiries, questions, and issues
Sort and file documents after posting
Assist the Controller and Director of Strategy & Advancement in budgeting and forecasting processes

Grants and Contracts
Prepare reports and invoices for grants/contracts for government and private funders
Assist with financial data for grant proposals and reporting

Payroll
Using Paylocity payroll system, process bi-weekly payroll, including verification of timesheets, earnings, and deductions
Maintain accurate departmental allocations given changes in funding streams
Review and allocate medical insurance premiums and other benefits, in concert with Human Resources
Manage integration of Paychex to general ledger
Maintain payroll files, reports, and related paperwork

General Responsibilities of El Futuro Staff:

Participate in meetings and organizational related activities as directed by the supervisor, which may include All Staff Meeting, Individual Supervision, participation on a committee, or other activities.
Play an active role in the continued development of El Futuro’s work via participation in fundraising and other agency-wide activities.
Engage in learning opportunities through “La Mesita”, El Futuro’s training platform and network of bilingual providers in North Carolina, or through other appropriate career development opportunities.
Be a team player who is ready to support other duties as assigned, in consultation with your supervisor and priority tasks.

Qualifications and Expectations:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or equivalent experience.
Minimum 3 year’s experience in accounting, preferably for a nonprofit organization.
Technical knowledge of accounting principles: recording, analyzing, classifying, and communicating accounting information.
Strong computer skills, including accounting databases, QuickBooks, Excel, Google Suite, Bill.com, and other relevant software.
Proven ability to work with all levels of staff within the organization, including leadership team, board members, and external partners.
Experience supporting annual audits.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities while affording attention to detail.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Bilingual in Spanish and English, preferred.
