Community Mental Health Worker

Victoria was an experienced elementary school teacher with a Licensure in Social Work from Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC). She is the founder and former Community Project Director of Cooperativa Center for Spanish as a Second Language Pop Wuj, where she launched an after-school program for children affected by parental alcoholism, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Since then, she has dedicated her life to supporting mothers and their children in breaking free from cycles of power and control. In Durham County, she has served Latinx families through the Hacia la Paz Familiar project, working as a Case Manager and Court Advocate. She has also worked as a domestic violence prevention educator at El Centro Hispano across Chatham and Orange Counties. Victoria has taught Spanish in local schools and at CHICLE (Chapel Hill Center for Language and Culture Exchange), and she has supported early childhood education as an Early Literacy Coach at Book Harvest Inc.. In the Book Babies program, she visited homes to provide Latinx families with strategies to build early language and literacy skills for children aged 0–5. In her free time, Victoria enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, hiking, and gardening.
