Vanessa Ballabeni

Outpatient Therapist, MSW

Vanessa grew up in Hickory, North Carolina and moved to Chapel Hill to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she graduated with a Bachelors in Psychology and Sociology. After graduation, Vanessa took some time to work at a nonprofit as a program manager helping Latine survivors of domestic violence navigate the systems they encounter when seeking safety and empower them on their journey towards healing and wellbeing. Her time working as an advocate highlighted the impact domestic violence has on mental health and led her to pursue a Masters in Social Work at UNC Chapel Hill. She came to work at El Futuro because of her passion to break down barriers and increase accessibility of mental health services for the Latine community. She believes in the mission and vision of El Futuro and has seen the positive impact they are already having on the Latine community. In her free time Vanessa enjoys reading and listening to audiobooks, watching horror movies, playing video games, and cuddling with her cat!

I recently listened to the audiobook of Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and thoroughly enjoyed the mystery/thriller aspects. I am currently reading Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler and am really enjoying the dystopian setting. I am currently obsessed with Let Alone The One You Love by Olivia Dean and El Arbolito by Grupo Nectar.
