Cecilia Cruz, CHES

Community Health Worker

Cecilia is from El Salvador and grew up in PG County, Maryland. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Public Health Practice at the University of Maryland and earned her certification as a Health Education Specialist (CHES®). During college, she interned at a non-profit organization, conducting outreach and helping to increase access to COVID-19 vaccines for the local Latinx community. She also served as an AmeriCorps Member for a year, mentoring middle school students in an after-school program. In her last semester of undergrad, Cecilia utilized her Spanish language skills to effectively reach the Latinx community, providing culturally tailored health education on diabetes prevention and management during her Community Health Internship at the UM Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. As a first-generation immigrant and college graduate, her roots have greatly influenced her passion for reducing health disparities in our communities. Cecilia is excited to be part of an organization like El Futuro, which aims to improve the health of the Latinx community by increasing access to health services.
