Cindy Avila

Outpatient Therapist, MA, LMFTA

Cindy was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and moved to NJ at the age of 12 and a few months later to North Carolina. She attended East Carolina University for a bachelor’s in biology and Appalachian State University for a Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy. As a first-generation eldest daughter, she witnessed firsthand the financial, health, and language limitations the Latinx community experiences in rural cities of NC. This knowledge fired a passion to serve the marginalized, underrepresented, and underserved. For the past five years, while attending university, she worked in health centers serving the agricultural community. This experience opened her eyes to the lack of mental health resources and language limitations in the Latinx community which led Cindy to change her career track from health science to behavioral science.

As a therapist with a systemic and holistic approach, Cindy incorporates interventions that aid in achieving goals, including cross-cultural sensitivity to promote inclusivity and equity. Her practice is for the person to enhance emotional development, improve mood, and motivate positive thinking.
