Gabriela Plasencia

Family Medicine Physician, MD, MAS

Gabriela grew up in Miami, Florida. She received her Bachelors from the University of Florida, her medical degree at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, and her Masters in Applied Science in Population Health Management at Johns Hopkins University. She completed her residency at Duke Family Medicine, where she rotated through El Futuro as her community clinical site. To more sustainably address the issues facing our Latine communities in North Carolina and nationally, Gaby completed a post-doctoral research fellowship through Duke National Clinician Scholars Program, a Health Equity Policy and Primary Care Research Fellowship through Duke Margolis Health Policy Institute, and served as a Policy Fellow at Center for Medicaid and Medicare Innovation. She returned to work at El Futuro in order to continue to serve Latine communities directly as a primary care provider with additional training in mental health diagnosis and treatment, while conducting ongoing health policy research at RAND, a non-profit research organization, and serving as a member of several local and state advisory boards focused on Latino/Hispanic and Minority Health issues. Outside of work, Gaby enjoys spending time with her young children and husband, exploring local coffee shops and restaurants, and going for long walks.
