Gladis Teran

Community Mental Health Worker

Gladis hails from Monterrey, NL, Mexico. She holds an associate’s degree in IT and a certificate as a Community Spanish Facilitator. Gladis worked at UNC Chapel Hill in the School of Nursing and the Gillings School of Global Public Health as a Research Assistant for over four years. During her tenure, she was deeply involved in research studies aimed at improving the lives of Hispanic populations. These studies included examining nutrition and wellbeing among Hispanic mothers and their children, enhancing construction worker safety among Latinos, and exploring the risk of heart attacks among perimenopausal Latina women. After her time at UNC, Gladis earned certifications as a Community Health Worker and in Mental Health First Aid for Youth and Adults. She has a strong passion for working with the Hispanic community, particularly in addressing the stigma surrounding mental health. This passion drives her work, and she feels proud to be part of the El Futuro family, where she contributes to making a difference. Gladis is also committed to giving back to her community by volunteering at a local food pantry. As a lifelong learner, she enjoys listening to personal growth podcasts, exercising, practicing mindfulness, and spending quality time with her family.
