Katty Yelitza Niño

Substance Use Counselor-MA, LCAS-A

Originally from Venezuela, Katty became interested in the field of counseling during her undergraduate years at UNC-Chapel Hill and that interest led her to choose psychology as a major. During her work at Durham Public Schools as an ESL Graduation Coach, she had the unique opportunity of serving and helping others, especially the immigrant teenage population. After working with students and their families she realized the great need for bilingual mental health services among the Latino community and this motivated her to pursue her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health with a specialization in substance use counseling at North Carolina Central University. Katty gained her experience as a clinical intern at El Futuro during the summer and fall of 2024, and she graduated with honors in December 2024. Katty is looking forward to continuing facilitating healing for the Latino community in a space where clients can feel physically, emotionally, and culturally safe. During her free time, Katty enjoys outdoor activities including hiking, exploring new places and spending time with family and friends.
