Maria de Lourdes Martinez, MS

Community Mental Health Worker

María was born and raised in Nicaragua, where she lived until she emigrated to the United States four years ago. She holds a degree in General Medicine and two Master’s degrees in Public Health and Sexual and Reproductive Health from the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua. In the U.S., she completed training as a Community Health Promoter at Durham Tech and is certified by the North Carolina Community Health Worker Association. She has also been trained as a Healthy Lifestyle Coach. For the past four years, María has worked closely with the Hispanic community, providing outreach, education, and information on overall wellness and healthy lifestyles, while also connecting individuals to resources. She joins El Futuro driven by her passion for the community and a deep desire to contribute to improving the mental and emotional well-being of those she serves. María enjoys hiking, dancing, doing Zumba, crafting, and working in her garden.
