Maria Luisa Solis
Community Mental Health Worker

Marilu grew up in Puebla and Tlaxcala, Mexico. She attended Santa Monica Adult School in Los Angeles, California, and she is currently studying at Durham Tech Community College. She has over 12 years of experience working with the Latino community as a Community Organizer and Leader. As the co-founder of Luma Consulting LLC, she develop outreach strategies and advocate for vulnerable communities to ensure their equitable participation. She has created forums for resident involvement in Durham city projects and collaborated on research initiatives as a community outreach consultant and recruiter for Duke University. She is currently working here at El Futuro as CHW under the “Strong Minds” Program. She is certify as Suicide Prevention Instructor with the QPR Institute and also certified in Mental Health First Aid for Young People. “I joined El Futuro because it aligns with my values of working with purpose and fulfills a long-held dream from my teenage years of pursuing a career in psychology.”
