Sandra Torres is a native from Sanford, NC where she was raised by Mexican and Salvadoran parents. Sandra studied social work both in undergraduate studies at UNC-Pembroke and in graduate school at NC State University. From a young age, Sandra had exposure to the richness of Latinx cultures and also the challenges they may face when accessing services. Sandra’s main passion has been to serve the Latinx and immigrant communities. Sandra comes from a background in nonprofit. Previously, she served the Lee County community through El Refugio, an organization dedicated to building bridges between residents and immigrants through free language programs, educational opportunities, and resource connections. Other past roles include as an ESL instructor for adult learners and a Latina Advocate within domestic violence and rape crisis field. In her free time, Sandra loves to paint and draw, spend time with family, watch Mexican and Korean Telenovelas, and go to new places, festivals, and events.
