2024 marks two decades for El Futuro
“Speaking in Spanish is not just about being able to translate the words and being able to process them, right, it’s about the culture that comes with it,” Rassi said.
Rassi said finding that in mental health care providers was challenging until she found El Futuro in Durham. “I have seen professionals in many places who are absolutely wonderful, but it has a very different impact when you see the other faces reflecting your own,” Rassi said.
Let’s look at how we celebrated 20 years of serving our community!
- As always, we threw some incredible parties like Mother’s Day Kermes, Hispanic Heritage Month Kermes, and our fall Art Auction, Expresiones
- We got a shoutout from Mayor Williams
- Received a generous pledge from Alliance Health
- Responded to Hurricane Helene by offering telehealth services
- We even wrote a couple of articles about the Immigrant Solidarity Network and Community Health Workers Mentes Fuertes that helped educate the community and raise mental health awareness.
- We partnered with the NC Institute of Medicine to convene immigrant leaders from around the state regarding the barriers to effective mental health support for their communities, resulting in the publication of a landscape analysis that boldly demonstrates coordinated policy supports moving forward
- We shared our support for families amid rising stress after the 2024 electionsAnd, of course, we continued our mission of providing bilingual, culturally-informed mental health care.
